an interesting development

in all these years that i've been making jewelry, i don't think i've ever set out to make something to wear for a specific event. i have a wonderful friend, judi, whose "little girl" is getting married next weekend (she's not little, she's 26!). i bought this red top to wear to the wedding and realized i didn't have a necklace to go with it...

this long crazy thing is probably 3.5" and i kind of love it....those stones (2 sunstones, 1 garnet) are from molly's mine (oregonsunstones.com)...and the long silver part...well, i hope my dear, conference attending friend barb will recognize what it is! i've entitled this piece "kava"...it's a polish word; look it up, if you're curious!

what a relief to be working in SILVER...as much as i enjoy troubleshooting, i hadn't realized how much the troubles with the bronzclay had taken some of the yay-i'm-finished joy out of the process...

the interesting development is that i have been plugging away at "my saul bell IDEA"....i think the reason it has been so hard is that it wasn't the RIGHT idea.... maybe this long skinny thing is the start of something for sb...who knows...

You made a silicone mold of those crushed up beans? Gotta love a coffee bean challenge that comes in a brown bag!
This is beautiful, Holly. Is it a pendant or a brooch? (or both?) I love the stones and their settings.
I am also still trying to figure out what to do for Saul Bell. I haven't hit on anything I'm excited about, yet. but I do have one idea "percolating."
I think bronze and copper clay were created to give us renewed excitement when we went back to silver. PMC+, what a relief! xoxo

yes, coffee!
it's a pendant, officially, right now, but i'm in the process of making 4 more, graduated...for a "necklace"... i had to email molly with an emergency sunstone order!

Onward and upward! Can't wait to see how it evolves. Hope you got the sunstone order fast!
Tomorrow might be my day to get back to work....The big birthday party for Bruce on Saturday night is over, (30 people, heavy hors d'oeuvres) and fritz moved to Boston this morning.I don't do the summer to all transition very smoothly.
Keep at your SB idea!

I meant to say Summer to Fall transition.....
And Fritz left for culinary school at B.U. yesterday, after living home for a year and a half. The thing was, he worked 70 hour weeks at the restaurant this summer, so we hardly saw him!

the thing is.....you hardly saw him, but i think you loved having him home and i know you're going to miss him! was he excited?
i've been working my butt off on the sb...i'm at the point where all i can see is the flaws...thank goodness i know how to persevere!

I know what you mean about seeing the flaws. You've been looking at it all so closely, especially to correct any flaws, that you need to step back and look at the whole piece. I bet its incredible.

You know you don't have to have the whole thing done before sending the submission in, right? You just have to give a detailed description of how you will make the piece and send a rendering or photograph.....

Yeah, I miss Fritz. I'm pretty excited for him too. This is one of the weirdest times on the island. Everyone leaves all at once. One week there will be 400 people on the island and the next week, 100!

you're right, i didn't remember that it doesn't have to be FINISHED...in my MIND it does because it'll be hard to complete it when i'm back in school....that does take some pressure off!
