current work

while making this toggle clasp i was desperately trying to place those balled-end wire loops in BEFORE firing...i did, and it worked out ok in most cases, although 1 got stuck to the pmc in the 2-hour firing. only THEN did i realize that there's no reason to fire them in....you can make them after the pmc pieces have already been fired....duh.

silver metalclay and sunstone earrings....i love this incredibly subtle apricot and blue LOS patina BUT it somehow looks a bit to "colorful" to me and i'm considering polishing it down to a plain brushed silver surface....it just seems that if i'm going to work in silver, it should look somewhat like silver!

I LOVE the way those balled ends look combined with the flat toggle clasp. I also like that tearaway texture you have going on.
By doing it afterwards, do you mean you could fire the wire in place, with the ends sticking out, and then ball them with the torch after they come out of the kiln? I'm thinking I might try that!
Wedding in less than three weeks! Our class together with Celie in less than 5 weeks! Yee ha!

i actually just fired the metal clay pieces with holes and balled up a u-shaped piece of fs wire after the whole thing was done...the problem with that is that the u is hard to guess the right size/length...it just occurs to me RIGHT NOW that you could make the wire exactly how long you want it and then put little ballys of pmc on the ends before firing...that way the length will be exactly right and the balls would be more substantial. i'm thinking little 3-card disks of clay on the ends would be a cool alternative too...
fun stuff coming! yee ha is right!

Beautiful toggle clasps and sunstone earrings. Always love your design sense and ideas! You've inspired me to try my own toggle clasps...I like the idea of making a "u' shape with wire and making PMC balls instead of balling up the ends with a torch. Great idea!

Also, I really enjoyed reading your blogs about your adventures in Poland! Thanks for sharing! Angie says a big hi! Hope we can get together soon! We're glad you and Barb can have another adventure in Vermont in the fall. Wish we could join you! xoxo
