thank goodness for smart friends....

please excuse the obvious lack of attention to white balance. BUT, check out the translucency! my friend, barb, suggested that alcohol inks mixed in with the transparent pardo might give a better result...and sure enough, it did! I conditioned "denim" and "bottle" adirondack inks right into the transparent pardo. These are a variety of thicknesses. the tapered and straight strips are about 6 on an atlas pasta roller.

all of the ovals and circles (with the exception of the chunky hand-formed one in the front with the hole) are about a 3 on the pasta roller. and here is  my polymer nemesis captured on
"film". i believe it's called plaqueing (sp?)...those trapped, flattened air bubbles or whatever?! they drive me crazy! when i took a class with celie fago i was led to believe that that effect was from hand-conditioning the polymer...well, this batch was rolled in the pasta roller.....

and that little bowly there? rolled out at 8 and draped over an armature....VERY transparent! all of these i quenched in ice water right out of the oven.

I love that bowl! Does quenching in cold water help the transparency of the piece? These are what I imagined the Pardo clay would look like. Yay! I'm glad to know the alcohol inks worked.
The bowl, is it firm after you fired (baked) and quenched it? Is it usable to hold stuff like earrings, beads, doodads? I'm so glad you kept experimenting with this. I'm waiting for alcohol inks to arrive now....

the bowl is firm but flexible...i was imagining that if i was a flowery person i might make a gigantic necklace out of a bunch of them made into flowers. i'm not though, so i won't. i did a batch of domed disks yesterday...#6 on the pasta roller...very translucent but the lovely green i mixed turned brown. burned, i think, tho my oven thermometer (inside) said 250....

oops...and YES i believe the ice water quenching makes it more translucent (i read it somewhere) but i've never tested what they look like unquenched.

I love the idea of some kind of flower beads like the bowl, only smaller. I just love looking at it..through it!
Wonder what's up with the brown on the second batch.
Puts me in mind of my bracelet from Celie's..hahahaha.
